Our story
Stonco started in a small Brooklyn garage when its founder, Phil Stone, began manufacturing durable lampholders designed specifically for entranceways, eaves, and outdoor commercial signage. Stone focused heavily on creating comprehensive accessory categories for his lighting equipment, implementing a "good, better, best" product tier strategy that included iconic early products like the 150L and 3300 series lampholders.
Key Company Milestones:
- 1947: Phil Stone launches the business in Brooklyn, New York.
- 1969: The company expands and merges with the Keene Corporation, shifting its core operations to Union, New Jersey and forming the well-known Stonco Keene name.
- 1983: Stonco Keene becomes one of the founding legacy brands of the Genlyte Group.
- Current Era: Today, the brand operates under Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), still honoring its original 1947 mission by manufacturing highly dependable, affordable, and contractor-friendly outdoor luminaires, garage/canopy fixtures, and commercial floodlights.
