Our Story
Philips was founded in 1891, as one of the first manufacturers of electric lights. Philips had strong ties to the healthcare market since the beginning, developing the first X-ray tubes in the early 1900s. Through the centuries it grew to be a global leader in electronics manufacturing, and acquired Genlyte to better serve the North American market. In 2016, the Philips organization became a healthcare technology brand, and the Philips Lighting division was spun off into Signify, so that it could continue to focus on lighting alone.
Today, the Philips name remains as the global lamps brand, and is included in Genlyte’s comprehensive porfolio of lighting solutions. We are proud to maintain a legacy of quality and innovation that has endured for centuries.
